By now you will have seen or know about President Shelton's email message that came out early yesterday afternoon. It focused on various aspects of the budget cut issue and its effect on the UA as a whole (which included such items as the $57 million budget cut, suspended Extension and Outreach operations, and mandatory faculty and staff five-day furloughs in 2009-2010). The Dean is working on a document which outlines each unit's contributions to the March 1 budget cut. For this cut, permanent or temporary State or non-State money can be used. However, for the 2009/2010 budget year, these cuts would become permanent and will be incorporated into next year's county allocation formula.
I am planning another Breeze conference call for this Wednesday, February 4 at 2:00pm to discuss this latest announcement. Be assured, there will be no county office shutdowns; however these cuts may affect several program areas. To participate, go to breeze.ltc.arizona.edu/aabo/ and sign in as a guest. As before, this call is open to all county and on-campus faculty and staff, as well as any other interested parties.
The Pinal County 4-H Clover Ride Event will take place on Saturday, February 21 at the Maricopa Ag Center Faul Village. The event is a fundraiser that was piloted last year to help benefit the Pinal County 4-H Scholarship Endowment so Pinal County 4-H members have the opportunity to receive education beyond high school. The Clover Ride is a motorcycle trip through the luscious desert landscapes of our county and riders learn about Pinal County businesses and 4-H. Last year, there were riders from a 200 mile radius attending the event. With today's tough economic conditions, it is difficult for the Pinal County 4-H Scholarship Committee to provide scholarships for youth. These scholarships help fund youth to attend a community college, university, trade school, or special education opportunities of their choice beyond high school. One of the goals of the professional development working group is to search for Web-based professional development links that can be provided to Extension personnel via Tuesday Morning Notes. Our hope is to find links that are relevant to both faculty and staff and suited to all program areas. A short document on time management tips can be found at dartmouth.edu/~acskills/docs/time_management.doc. Hopefully, you can find a few morsels that help with managing your day.
Yesterday afternoon an email went out to all Extension faculty pertaining to a new policy for Extension publications that are five (5) years or older. The new policy will require most publications published before 2005 to be updated by July 1, 2009. A copy of the email and a detailed list of the publications requiring updating can be found at cals.arizona.edu/extension/employee/peered_pubs_needing_review.pdf.
