A successful Strategic Planning workshop for the ANR/IPM/Horticulture program areas was well attended in late December 2008 at Biosphere II. Thanks to the organizing committee of Ursula Schuch, Peter Ellsworth, Kim McReynolds, Kai Umeda and Randy Norton as well as Kirk Astroth and Dan McDonald for facilitating the activities. The information is being deciphered, collated and will be summarized and posted on the Web for everyone to review. Watch for an announcement soon in TMN. Our next step will be to take what we did, along with the strategic plans from the 4-H and FCHS workshops, and develop a plan for Extension as a whole. We also plan to get clientele input.
My thanks to all the faculty, staff and external donors who made our new faculty tour informative and successful. A special thanks goes to Kurt Nolte, Glenn Wright, Charles Sanchez, Bob Roth, Joyce Cadenhead, Bill Brandau, Randy Norton and all the other faculty and staff for all the tour coordination and events. Of course, this could not have happened without the work of Randy Ryan and Jennifer Smith in the Experiment Station Office. We especially appreciate the great turnout at the community events in Yuma and Safford. Such turnout does not occur without strong local effort.
Dawn Gouge, Associate Specialist, Entomology, has led a successful program that reduces pesticide use in schools and benefits hundreds of thousands of Arizona children and families. She has also produced a plan to expand this program nationally. The program, School IPM (Integrated Pest Management), is about to receive national recognition. If you want more information about the program, contact Dawn (dhgouge@cals.arizona.edu) at the Maricopa Ag Center (520.568.2273).
One of the new goals of the professional development working group is to search for Web-based professional development links that can be provided to Extension personnel via Tuesday Morning Notes. Our hope is to find links that are relevant to both faculty and staff and suited to all program areas. The first link of the New Year comes from the Florida 4-H webpage (florida4h.org/staff/inservice/delegate.htm) . It covers the elements of effective delegation. Feel free to contact Lani Hall (llhall@cals.arizona.edu) or Brent Strickland (bstrick@cals.arizona.edu) to provide feedback on the links or to suggest a link.
A further and important reminder that it is time to change your NETID passwords. You may have received an email (which should have come from "cuac@arizona.edu" reminding you to change your NETID password and as announced by others within CALS, this is legitimate. To make the change go to netid.arizona.edu/ and navigate to "Change UA NetID password." The email you'll receive has an expiration date and failure to change the password by that date will result in being locked out of services requiring NETID (such as Employee Link). Remember that choosing a strong password means you will only have to do this once a year. If you have any questions or issues, call 520.621.2985. This password change procedure DOES NOT effect your CALS server account.
"Arizona T3 Training of Trainers for Vision Screening" by Patty Merk and Suzanne Boyd and "T3 How to Train Hearing Screeners: Initial Curriculum" and "T3 How to Train Hearing Screeners: Renewal Curriculum" by Patty Merk, Lylis Olsen, Randi Winston, Kathleen Ford. All three publications are available to trainers in the T3 program and can requested here (cals.arizona.edu/maricopa/t3/contact.php).
