Style Guide
The University of Arizona Cooperative Extension is an important educational organization. If we are to continue providing practical educational service to the citizens of Arizona , we must constantly and consistently tell the Extension story to decision makers, the media, customers, and the general public. We must use every opportunity to tell who we are and the value of Extension educational programs.
Colors
The official Extension colors are red (PMS-200), blue (PMS-281) and black.
Slogan
The key to an effective image is simplicity with consistency. Simple, stimulating slogans are critical in projecting a clear, accurate identity. The slogans of The University of Arizona Cooperative Extension are:
“bringing research based information into communities to help people improve their lives”
“taking the university to the people”
Promoting the Name, Logo, Color, and Slogan
Promote the name, logo, colors, and slogan consistently and systematically in these ways:
- Office doors and reception areas
- Building signs
- Web sites
- Telephone listings
- All publications and newsletters
- Business cards
- Stationery
- Answering telephone
- News releases and public service announcements
- Portable I.D. signs for meetings
- Public relations materials
- Name badges
- PowerPoint presentations
- Banners
- Cable TV shows
- Videos
Mission Statement
A formal mission statement is the basis of a good marketing plan. The mission statement should reflect the purpose and philosophy of The University of Arizona Cooperative Extension. All educational programs should be measured against the mission statement to ensure that our programs are fulfilling our purpose.
The mission is:
The University of Arizona Cooperative Extension helps people improve their lives through an educational process which uses scientific knowledge focused on issues and needs.
Promote the mission statement by including it in:
- Publications
- Transmittal slips
- Faculty, staff, and volunteer orientation materials
- Printed programs
- Presentations
Simplified Description
Faculty, staff and volunteers have many opportunities to explain The University of Arizona Cooperative Extension to the public. This simplified description will help:
Cooperative Extension, the outreach arm of The University of Arizona, serves as a statewide network of knowledgeable faculty and staff that provides lifelong educational programs for all Arizonans. We are part of a nationwide educational network of scientists and educators who help people solve problems and put knowledge to use. Arizona Cooperative Extension provides a link between the university and the citizens of this state.
Your Role
Market The University of Arizona Cooperative Extension at all meetings and when answering the telephone.
When planning meetings, collect appropriate visibility materials, such as flyers or videos, to market The University of Arizona Cooperative Extension.
When conducting educational programs:
- Display a sign identifying The University of Arizona Cooperative Extension and the unit or county.
- Distribute the Extension brochure and a current copy of any appropriate newsletter.
- When giving a presentation, include the logo and name, (the slogan and the mission statement if time permits) in your PowerPoint.
- Present an overview of Extension's programs at the beginning of each meeting. Refer to the simplified description listed above.
- Clearly identify yourself and the organization by wearing your name badge.
- Watch for opportunities to use the mission statement when appropriate. When answering the telephone say: " University of Arizona Cooperative Extension , (county office or state office), (your name) speaking."
