In January 1997, the Sierra Vista City Council
formed The Plant Sciences Task Force. This task force was
established to address the native plant challenge associated with area
development.
The Task Force soon identified the need for a plant
salvage yard to temporarily house native plants displaced by improvement
projects. |

The Plant Sciences Center of Sierra Vista,
Arizona is located on land donated by The University of Arizona Sierra
Vista Foundation.
The Center encompasses an area of 15,000 square feet and is located at
The University of Arizona South Campus, 1140 N. Colombo.

Ground breaking for the Plant Sciences Center, was held
just eight months after the Task Force's inauguration.
Dr. Groth from The University of Arizona, City Manager Chuck Potucek,
Carmel Vangilder, Arizona Department of Transportation's Mark Taylor,
Mayor Richard Archer and Wettie the Waterdrop joined the City Council in
cutting the ribbon.
