Weaning |
| Weaning of the calves at the V Bar V Ranch takes place in the fall. Approximately 500 cows and their calves are gathered into the corrals at Mahan Park. The calves are then separated from their dams. All the animals are brought through the chutes. The cows are weighed, a general health exam is done, and they are tagged, if needed. The calves are weighed, vaccinated, tagged, and sorted by sex and destination. The heifer calves will be shipped to pasture to mature and be brought back to the Ranch for breeding next year. The steers will be shipped to the feedlot to mature for market. Yearling bulls will be developed at the ranch. |
